The Festival of the Resurrection — Easter Sunday

The Festival of the Resurrection at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

There are two parts to this entry:  The Resurrection Proclamation (with audio) and The Message (with audio)

The Resurrection Proclamation (during the proclamation three women entered the worship area asking “who will roll the stone away?”

The Resurrection Proclamation according to St. Mark

P: When Pilate heard that Jesus was dead, he gave his body to Joseph of Arimathea.  So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took the body, wrapped it in linen, and placed it in a tomb. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid.  When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magadalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body.  Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they took the spices and went to the tomb.  As they went they said one another,

“Who will roll away the stone?”

When they arrived at the tomb they found the stone rolled away, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly a man in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down their faces to the ground, but the man said to them,

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!
C: HE IS NOT HERE! HE IS RISEN!
A: He is risen!
C: HE IS RISEN INDEED!
A: He is risen!
C: HE IS RISEN INDEED!
A: He is risen!
C: HE IS RISEN INDEED! ALLELUIA!
